The Montreal Canadiens have signed former St. Louis Blues forward Alexandre Texier to a 1-year $1 million deal. Texier's previous deal with the Blues before termination was a 2-year deal carrying an AAV of $2.1 million.

Much like David Kampf was, Texier seemed like a prime depth add from the outset of his contract termination being rumoured. Texier was first placed on waivers and sent down to the Springfield Thunderbirds on Friday, November 21, and then his contract was terminated Sunday afternoon by the Blues organization. Rumours seemed to come to a head on Saturday night as Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman placed the Canadiens as the frontrunners to sign the now-former Blues player.

Texier hails from Saint-Martin-d’Heres, France and was drafted 45th overall in 2017 by the Columbus Blue Jackets. In 240 NHL games, Texier has accumulated 91 points (40 goals and 51 assists). During this 2025-2026 season, he has 1 assist in 8 games played. Last season, he produced 6 goals and 5 assists in 31 games with St. Louis.

The 26-year-old forward joins the Habs in the midst of a bad case of the injury bug. Patrik Laine, Kirby Dach, Kaiden Guhle, and Alex Newhook are all missing from the Canadiens' lineup. As a result of said injuries, Montreal had called up three players from the Laval Rocket. Jared Davidson and Joshua Roy were the first two to be recalled, followed by Florian Xhekaj, who made his debut against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Paired with the signing announcement, the Canadiens also stated that Rocket defenseman Adam Engstrom had been recalled to the big club as well.

Texier is most likely being brought in to provide some stability in a bottom-6 role. He stickhandles well and can move with some speed to assist on the zone entry. He has been playing along the wing as of late, but is an option up the middle should the need arise.
