Montreal Canadiens defying all logic with their latest winning streak

Based on what has transpired for the Canadiens over the last couple of weeks, you likely wouldn't have predicted a winning streak

Something about the Montreal Canadiens almost doesn’t make sense.

Following their 5-4 loss to the Washington Capitals on Oct. 14, they were 3-3-1 and had a goal differential of -4. Of the three wins they had, only one of them was in regulation.

Imagine, at that time, hearing that they’d go 1-for-5 on the power play in the following game against the Sabres. That goal would be their most recent on the power play as of Oct. 30.

Oh, and their captain, Nick Suzuki, would be missing in action for the first time in his career. Ivan Demidov would still be missing in action, too.

Being frank, it all sounds like a recipe for a nightmare to come.

Turns out that would be far from the case.

Canadiens winning despite what's gone wrong

The Canadiens have won five of their last six games. Now, their goal differential is +5, and they've gone from below the playoff line to second in the Atlantic Division.

In their last five games, they have salvaged at least one point in every game, and their last four games have all been regulation wins.

Has it helped that Jacob Fowler has played out of his mind? Oh, absolutely. But they rolled out Jakub Dobes against the Dallas Stars after his struggles this season for their most recent game and won 5-2.

Huh?

Yeah, that’s right.

A struggling goalie plus two key forwards being injured equaled a 5-2 win against a Stanley Cup contender.

Defensemen have been key to the offense. During the last six games, Lane Hutson and Noah Dobson each have three points. Alexandre Carrier has four in the span.

As for forwards, Cole Caufield continues to play out of his mind. Over the last six games, he has five goals and three assists for eight points. It's not too surprising after he had a 50-goal season in 2025-26, but having an engine without Suzuki is still worthy of note.

Fowler is without a doubt a top reason why they've been able to win, but this is a team effort. Someone has stepped up one way or another.
