The Montreal Canadiens have gotten younger and their blueline has benefitted from that in a big way.

Kaiden Guhle has developed into one of the Habs' best defensemen, he has played many important minutes and continues growing. He has started out with a bang this season, averaging over 21 minutes per game, and not looking out of place. With four points through four games, while he has scored, he has been impressive defensively.

Guhle is known for his smooth skating and strong positioning, but his physicality has returned and he has no issue standing up on opponent's at the blueline and in the corners. His impressive closing speed is a treat to watch, though he rarely gets caught out of position because of his awareness. All signs point to Guhle cementing himself as the club's most reliable defender, anchoring the top pair.

Offensively Guhle is pretty quiet, but when he gets his opportunity he has proven to be a deadly shooter. Whether it's the surprise factor, velocity or heavy release; Guhle has an underrated scoring ability. His goal put the Habs on the board against the Pittsburgh Penguins, and it was one Shea Weber would be proud of.

Guhle was in the right position and as soon as the puck touched his blade he hammered it at Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry. He was rewarded for all of his hard work. His strong play made him an easy guy to be happy for.

Guhle - Hutson; could it be?

A defensive pair that has emerged and been quite fun to watch is Guhle and Lane Hutson. It's not ideal based on the pair both being left shots, but it works and they complement each other well. Hutson is adventurous and shifty, while Guhle is responsible and has quick feet.

Together, they form a young defence pair - Guhle (22) and Hutson (20), but they seem to work. Guhle is a quick, smart passer and he navigates the ice well. While Hutson provides an outlet option, and he is almost guaranteed to exit the puck out of the zone.

Hutson has been the talk of the league and rightfully so, but Guhle has been equally as good but for different reasons.
