The Montreal Canadiens got back on track Tuesday night when they defeated the Vancouver Canucks in a low-event matchup. The Canucks have been on a downward spiral recently, but it's the type of game the Canadiens would've found a way to lose over the past few seasons. It's a good sign for the team that they dominated mostly from start-to-finish, as they showed it's possible for them to take care of business and grab two crucial points. The question now for the Canadiens is if they can do it on back-to-back nights.

On Tuesday night, Nick Suzuki got the team on the right foot with a slick breakaway goal on the team's second shift. The first line got back on track, contributing the first three goals, with Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Juraj Slafkovsky scoring one each. The Canucks had a slight rally with two goals in the third period, but Mike Matheson iced the game with a 150-foot empty netter.

The Kraken will likely find themselves on the outside looking in of the Western Conference playoff picture, as they've won just four of their past ten games after a mini-resurgence. The Kraken have plenty of reasons for optimism with their pipeline and can catch a team sleeping on any given night, but it hasn't led to as much success this season as they would've liked. With the Kraken's young core, the Canadiens will likely see plenty of them in a few years when both teams are contending.

Jakub Dobes will start for the Canadiens in this matchup after Montembeault earned the win on Tuesday. Dobes started two games since the break, earning a 4-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres and a 1-0 loss to the Calgary Flames. In total, Dobes stopped 46 of 49 shots over the two games, which is more than enough for the backup goalie. It'll be interesting to see if Dobes can earn more starts with another good performance on Wednesday.
