The Montreal Canadiens and Detroit Red Wings will meet for the third time this season after the Habs took both games of a home-and-home series in December. The Canadiens were chasing the Red Wings at that point in the season, but their recent turnaround has put them five points ahead of their Original Six rivals.
The Red Wings haven't been performing poorly, as they are 6-3-1 over their past ten games. However, the ground they gained recently has gone by the wayside with their three-game losing streak. Detroit will be happy to return home after a disappointing road trip, but it hasn't been rosy at Little Caesars Arena this season, sporting a 12-11-2 record.

The Canadiens are back "in the mix" after an impressive run where they have been one of the league's best teams over the past two months. The Canadiens could miraculously climb to third in the Atlantic Division if none of the teams surrounding them record a point in tonight's games. They currently have an identical record to the Ottawa Senators, and are one point behind the Tampa Bay lightning with one extra game played.
