The Montreal Canadiens could nearly cement their place in the Stanley Cup Playoffs if they defeat the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night. The Red Wings are one of the teams chasing the Canadiens, and could narrow the gap to four points with a game in hand if they win. Montreal owning an eight-point lead with just five games remaining in the season would put them in a perfect spot. The New York Rangers are also six points back, but have no games in hand and would be practically eliminated with a Montreal victory.
How to Watch Detroit Red Wings vs. Montreal Canadiens
Date: Tuesday, April 8, 2025
Time: 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT
Venue: Bell Centre
How to Watch: TSN2, RDS, Fanduel Sports Network, FuboTV
The Canadiens have been on a roll over their last five games, which widened the gap in the wild card race. The Red Wings also have significant wins over their past five games, including victories over the Carolina Hurricanes and the Florida Panthers. They are riding a four-game point streak, after taking the red-hot St. Louis Blues to overtime and beating the struggling Boston Bruins. Detroit is now the most significant threat.
The good news for the Canadiens is that the Red Wings have one of the most difficult remaining schedules, including a rematch against the Panthers, and games against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars, New Jersey Devils, and Toronto Maple Leafs.
Nick Suzuki has put the team on his back over the past five games, with Lane Hutson sitting not far behind him. Suzuki has five goals and five assists over that span, while Hutson has a goal and seven assists. They'll also get the return of Sam Montembeault in tonight's game, as Jakub Dobes held down the fort on Sunday evening against the Nashville Predators. The hope now for the Canadiens is that their travel schedule won't catch up to them against the Red Wings.
