The Montreal Canadiens and Buffalo Sabres battle in the second half of a home-and-home series. The Canadiens took care of business on Saturday night with a 4-2 victory at the KeyBank Center, which gave them their fourth-straight victory since returning from the Four Nations Faceoff break. Montreal has an opportunity to vault into the playoff picture with a win on Monday night and some help from other teams around the league.
How to Watch Buffalo Sabres vs. Montreal Canadiens
Date: Tuesday, March 3, 2025
Time: 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT
Venue: Bell Centre
How to Watch: TSN2, RDS, MSG-Buffalo, FuboTV
Cole Caufield opened the scoring for the Canadiens before Alex Tuch and Jiri Kulich gave them a 2-1 lead. However, Josh Anderson, Alex Newhook, and Jake Evans scored three unanswered goals to give the Canadiens the victory. Jakub Dobes struggled heading into the break which led the Canadiens to start Sam Montembeault in three-straight games, but Dobes stopped 23 of 25 shots to break his poor stretch.
Nick Suzuki has been leading the way for the Canadiens, which could be either a result of rest or the inspriation of being a snub from Team Canada and wanting to play in the next best-on-best tournament. If he can continue having stretches of three goals and six assists in five games, that opportunity could come his way in 2026. Rasmus Dahlin has been a star for Buffalo over that same span, recording three goals and four assists.
The Sabres have five games in hand over their next closest team the Pittsburgh Penguins, but Buffalo is five points back in the last spot in the Eastern Conference. They could catch the Penguins, but at this point, it could be better for Buffalo to throw in the towel and try to reach a solution for their struggles. Cratering this season and getting another high draft pick is likely the first step.
