Opposing teams have yet to figure out how to stop Cole Caufield, and the problem for 31 other teams may only be growing stronger by the day.

During the Montreal Canadiens’ 3–2 overtime win over the Vegas Golden Knights, Caufield hit multiple offensive milestones, further cementing that we may be watching the best hockey of his career unfold in real time.

Cole Caufield reaches 30 goals for the second straight season

Caufield's second-period tally against the Golden Knights made it the second time in his young career that he has reached 30 goals in a season. He now sits just seven goals shy of matching his career high of 37, set last season, and he still has 29 games left to push that number even higher.

The Canadiens sniper has firmly inserted himself into the conversation among the league’s elite goal scorers. His 30 goals put him in a tie with Jason Robertson for the third-most in the NHL. Far from being a one-off breakout, this season is reinforcing that last year was a launching point, not a peak. Caufield isn’t just sustaining his production; he’s building on it as he enters the prime of his career.

Whether he can crack the 40-goal mark for the first time remains to be seen. What’s already clear, though, is that his recent scoring surge has him as hot as any Canadiens player has been in years.

Caufield's goal streak reaches personal best at six.

Caufield has now found the back of the net in six straight games, making it the longest goal-scoring streak of his career. No Canadiens player has matched that run since Max Domi (2019–20) and former captain Max Pacioretty (2015–16).

Not only is the length of the streak impressive, but the production within it might be even more remarkable. During this six-game run, Caufield has piled up nine goals, boosted by a hat trick against the rival Bruins.

Caufield’s consistent scoring, whether on the power play, at even strength, or in the clutch, has made him one of the league’s top finishers. If the Canadiens are going to contend for a playoff spot, they are going to need their top goalscorer to continue on this rapid pace and build on another career year.

With the 30-goal mark now checked off and his goal streak continuing, all eyes will be on Caufield to see how far this hot stretch can take him. If he keeps firing at this clip, he could well threaten career highs once again while writing a new chapter in what’s shaping up to be one of the most dynamic scoring seasons by a player in recent Canadiens history.

The last Canadiens player to reach the 40-goal threshold was Vincent Damphousse in the 1993-94 season. Caufield is now on the quest to etch his name into Canadiens history once again.
