The Montreal Canadiens extended their win streak to seven games on Thursday night with a 3-2 win over the New York Rangers. One of the big reasons for the win was Cole Caufield, who had two of the three goals for Montreal.
Caufield has been on such an incredible run as of late with 12 goals in his past 11 games and is now only one goal behind Colorado Avalanche's Nathan MacKinnon for the league lead in the category. After the game, Caufield was asked if he thinks about chasing MacKinnon in this category and he had the perfect response.
"No… like yeah." 💀

"No," said Caufield and waited for a few seconds before saying "like yeah" with a laugh. "I just say the same as our coach, we're focused on our team game and winning games. I think individual stuff comes with that, but doing the right things, you get more chances and opportunities."
For Caufield, he has a chance to make franchise history and be the first Montreal Canadiens' player to win the Rocket Richard Trophy. The award was created in 1999 and is named after Maurice "Rocket" Richard, who is a Canadiens legend, and given to the player who leads the league in goals.
Cole Caufield and Canadiens top line have chance to carry them deep in the playoffs
Right now, the Montreal Canadiens are probably the last team anyone wants to play in the playoffs. This team looks almost unstoppable with improved goaltending and defense, but it is really the top line that is the difference maker.
The trio of Caufield, Nick Suzuki, and Juraj Slafkovsky has been incredible during this win streak and has combined for 37 points, with them accounting for 16 goals and 21 assists. All three are incredibly talented, but complement each other so well with their skill sets.
Caufield is an excellent scorer who can seemingly find the back of the net from anywhere on the ice, while Suzuki has the vision to find Caufield anywhere on the ice with a pass. Meanwhile, Slafkovsky is a big forward who can control the puck, especially down low in the offensive zone, which keeps the play alive.
If this line is able to continue to play the way they have into the playoffs, they have a great chance to get past the first round for the first time since 2021.
