Before the New Year and the first couple of months of the season, there were countless debates about the Winter Olympics and which players would make the rosters of their respective country's teams. Sure, Team Canada had legitimately tough decisions to make. For Team USA, they had some difficult choices to make as well. But for general manager Bill Guerin, there were some no-brainer type players that he could easily include on the roster. He chose not to.

One of those players was Montreal Canadiens forward Cole Caufield. Even though Caufield has shown to be one of the best young American players in hockey, Guerin picked J.T. Miller and Vincent Trocheck onto the roster over the Canadiens forward. Caufield was considered one of the biggest snubs left off the Team USA roster.

On Tuesday, the Canadiens took on the Guerin's Minnesota Wild. With the game tied 3-3 in the closing seconds of the third period, Caufield unleashed a wicked shot off a pass from Nick Suzuki and past Wild goaltender Jesper Wallstedt for the game-winner.

The Canadiens' social media team decided to poke the bear and tag USA Hockey in their tweet including a video of Caufield's game winner. Talk about holding a grudge!

Cole Caufield just gave Team USA a brutal reminder of his Olympic worth

Caufield scoring a game-winning goal with 15 seconds on the clock against Guerin's NHL team feels poetic, doesn't it. Hence why the social media team decided to send a reminder to Team USA that maybe they should have selected him to the Olympic roster.

After the game, Caufield was asked about the tweet in question from the Canadiens' official account and about getting revenge on Guerin. Caufield downplayed the tweet and said he was just happy to help the Canadiens win the game.

This season, Caufield has 25 goals and 24 assists to his credit. He is one of five Canadiens players with over 40 points to their credit.

Caufield wasn't the only person to make their case at the expense of Guerin was defenseman Lane Hutson, who was left off the roster. Hutson scored a goal and dished out an assist in the 4-3 victory. On the year, Hutson has 52 points to his credit. Yet, even with Seth Jones being ruled out for Team USA on Wednesday, Hutson was passed over once again for a roster spot, this time to Jackson LaCombe of the Anaheim Ducks.

Barring another injury to the forward group, it's looking as though Caufield will still not make the Olympic roster and the trip to Italy. It's a true shame, considering how talented Caufield is and how much of an impact he's had on Montreal's success this season. Considering Caufield is only 25 years old, he should make the Olympic team in the future.
