With a combined four picks in Round 6 and Round 7 of the 2026 NHL Draft the Canadiens had a handful of decisions to make. The Habs initially had five picks, but as Montreal had been doing all draft they traded another pick, the 223rd overall pick for one of Los Angeles’s 2027 seventh round picks.

Round Six

Parker Trottier -189th

Montreal’s first pick of the day from the USHL, the 6’1”, 185lb left winger is a direct physical weapon, and scouting opinions wildly varied. Elite Prospects had him ranked at 110th, and McKeens had him as low as 183rd. He plays a disruptive style and excels at playing a quick physical game.

Trottier garnered 8 goals and 6 assists for 14 points with the USNTDP Juniors in the USHL and 11 goals and 16 assists for 27 points in 61 games played for the U.S. National U18 Team, also 78 penalty minutes.

Wesley Royston – 190th

Switching to the first OHL pick of the day for the Habs, and back to the big side of things, Montreal selected 6’4”, 190lb Royston of the Owen Sound Attack. A power forward through and through, he can pick up speed and win races to pucks with the best of them. Royston was traded from the Erie Otters back in October to help an Attack team that was in flux.

In 59 games last season, Royston picked up 12 goals and 7 assists for 19 points in 59 games for both the Otters and Attack. The Habs are getting a physical player who uses his size well.

Round Seven

Jean-Samuel Daigneault – 221st

Continuing the trend of 6’3 defensemen picked by Montreal, they selected their first Quebecois player of the draft in Daigneault. Daigneault is yet another wrecking ball of a player. To put it simply he skates well and crushes guys. He also recently switched from the USHL to the OHL and will play with the Brantford Bulldogs next season.

If the last name sounds familiar to Habs fans, it should as yes he is the son of former Canadien J.J. Daigneault who was part of the team from the 1989-90 season to 1995-1996.

Tyler Deakos – 224th

Montreal held the last pick of the 2026 NHL draft and went once again to the USHL, this time selecting overage forward Tyler Deakos. Deakos spent ten games in the AJHL where he scored eight goals and seven assists for 15 points in 10 games, then 7 goals and 10 assists for 17 points in 19 games with the Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL.

Deakos has committed to playing with the Penticton Vees of the WHL for the 2026-2027 season. Per Vees director of scouting Adam Sergerie “Tyler is a strong 200-foot player who’s responsible at both ends of the rink - He’s at his best when he’s forechecking and creating turnovers, and he’s tough to knock off the puck thanks to his inside protection.”
