Matthew Schaefer

Matthew Schaefer has been quickly rising the ranks in the draft class and could overtake Hagens if he has a good tournament. Schaefer started the pre-tournament practices on the first powerplay for Team Canada, further cementing comments on RG.org that discussed how Schaefer making the team over first-round picks like Zayne Parekh and Carter Yakemchuk is the biggest testament to his draft stock. If it weren't for Schaefer, Parekh would've been taken as the team's powerplay quarterback.

Schaefer has some flaws in his game that he will need to work out before turning pro, but like Hagens, a good World Junior tournament could make or break his draft stock. Schaefer playing a starring role with the whole country watching could elevate him to the top of everyone's draft boards.
