The potential Hall of Fame career of Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price came to an end in the most unfortunate way after a miracle run to the 2021 Stanley Cup final.

Price’s knee just couldn’t manage to heal properly, and it seems the wear and tear during the Canadiens Cinderella run were far too much for the Anahim Lake, BC native’s body. He hasn’t retired yet, but it’s confirmed his playing days are behind him. The games where he singlehandedly stole wins with ridiculous performances are but a memory now.

It turns out that despite Price’s playing days being behind him, he has still managed to be involved. He has been in close contact with a fellow goaltender, who is just starting his NHL career. Montreal, Quebec native Devon Levi spoke recently with Spittin Chiclet’s duo Paul Bissonnette and Ryan Whitney and touched on what Price’s words have meant to him.

Levi explained that when he was 11-12 years old, he met Price, who of course played for his hometown Canadiens team. The Sabres goaltender grew up idolizing Price and recalled having a Facetime call with Price, and the conversation was so genuine. On another occasion, Levi’s NHL debut was set, and Price reached out via text, wishing Levi luck and giving him some advice.

The fact of the matter is that Price was a Canadiens pillar for many years and a Montreal legend. The fact that he has devoted time to helping out one of the NHL’s high-potential goaltenders of the future, speaks to Price’s character.

Despite not reaching the pinnacle of NHL hockey with the Canadiens, Price remains positive and upbeat. While he struggles to come to terms with his professional hockey career being over, he still supports the future of the sport. Jacob Fowler isn’t from Montreal, but Quentin Miller is from nearby, so maybe they can have their turn to talk with Mr. Saturday night himself.

Price’s presence paired with his huge heart, and love for the sport continues to shine through. The future of goaltending is in good hands if mentors like Price are guiding the goalies of tomorrow, today.

After all the adversity, and injury trouble that he has been through, he has still found the time to help out a 21-year-old goaltender, who is in the process of establishing himself as an NHL starting goaltender.
