Montreal Canadiens 2022 second-round selection Lane Hutson exploded on the NCAA scene in 2022, and he appears to have stayed hot.

The 5’10” offensive defenseman has made a habit of scoring big goals for the Boston University Terriers. He sometimes makes it look too easy, and because of that, he sits firmly atop the Canadiens top prospect’s list.

This weekend, Hutson and his Terriers played back-to-back games on Friday, then Saturday night. And Hutson was up to his old tricks, ripening like a wine grape on the vine, for his sophomore campaign.

In the first game, on Friday night, Hutson scored a powerplay tally, that looks so translatable to the NHL. He will instantly improve the Habs powerplay, and his buddy Macklin Celebrini would look awfully good in a Habs sweater one day, too.

Despite his one-point effort on Friday night, Hutson decided to one, two, three up his effort. He scored a hat trick, with his third tally tying the game and, ultimately sending the game to the second intermission knotted up at 3-3.

Hutson’s first tally tied the game a 1-1 with 15:36 to go in the first period. Ty Gallagher and Ryan Greene earned the assists.

Down 3-1 after two goals by ND, Hutson found the scoresheet for the second time. Celebrini and Devin Kaplan were involved in the play, and they each earned an assist.

In typical Hutson fashion, he saved his best for the biggest moment of the game. Down 3-2, Hutson potted the game-tying tally with 32 seconds left in the middle period, finishing off his hat trick, with 20 minutes still to play. Shane Lachance and Dylan Peterson drew assists on the tally.

Devin Kaplan tied the game late after ND pulled ahead in the third. His game-tying tally sent the Terriers to overtime. But the Terriers lost in overtime, but Hutson has himself a night, and he continues to shine.
