Montreal Canadiens: Lane Hutson Shines In Return From Injury With 3-Point Night
In typical Lane Hutson fashion, the stud Montreal Canadiens 2022 second-round selection put on a show in his return to NCAA action with the Boston University Terriers.
Hutson capped off a three-point night, with a goal and two assists, renewing his ridiculous chemistry with expected 2024 first-overall selection Macklin Celebrini. The pair look brilliant together, and while it’s not very likely, it would be so fun to watch the pair in bleu, blanc et rouge. They have been the catalysts for the Terriers’ offence, and at 17 and 19 years old respectively, the duo have plenty of years ahead to ignite NHL crowds.
Hutson chose violence from the get-go, making a defender look silly, before exploding towards the net for a chance. He put on a stickhandling clinic, and the defenders had absolutely no chance. Much like Pavel Datsyuk, he slipped the puck from side to side, leaving the defender in the dust.
As you should know, Hutson was feeling it, and it translated to the scoresheet. He walked the blue line, then in an almost figure skater stance, he fired a curl and drag wrist shot past UMass goaltender Michael Hrabal. The goal marked his first point of the night.
Hutson and Celebrini capitalized on being more talented than any other players on the ice. Celebrini exploded through the neutral zone pushing back the UMass defender, before making a short pass to Hutson. They entered the attacking zone together, and Hutson returned the puck back to Celebrini, who did the rest, beating Hrabal.
The 5’10” offensive defenseman was firing on all cylinders, and aside from the points he also drove the play. While Habs fans have PTSD when they see a drop pass on the powerplay. Hutson did so with such poise and calmness as if to say that it was routine.
While it didn’t affect the scoresheet in any way, Hutson shone bright like a diamond, against UMass, with another sweet deke. He channelled his inner Denis Savard, pulling off a sweet spin-o-rama, before pivoting to draw a defender towards him at the blueline and making a saucer pass to a teammate to get out of danger. The ability to make plays with his skating and high hockey processor will be a welcomed addition to the Canadiens very soon.
Terriers forward Ryan Greene benefitted from a nice passing play by Celebrini and Hutson. Hutson made a nice pass from his powerplay QB spot on the blueline, over to Celebrini. He finished off the play threading the needle to Greene in the slot, and he made no mistake.
Fellow Habs prospect and Terriers teammate Luke Tuch also got on the board. He iced the game with an empty netter to put a seal on the win. The story of the night was Hutson, and he picked up right where he left off.
