Montreal Canadiens: Kaiden Guhle Returns From Injury
The Montreal Canadiens are getting set to face the Winnipeg Jets tonight at the Bell Centre. The team is off to a 4-2-1 start, which is better than most anticipated before the season began, and they just got a big boost before taking on the Jets.
The team announced this morning that Kaiden Guhle will return to the lineup after missing four games with injury. He left the Habs loss to the Minnesota Wild early with an upper body injury and has not played since that game on October 17th.
The Canadiens first round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, Guhle has turned in to a top four defender on the team at the age of 21 and looks to be a huge part of the team’s future. That is both literally and figuratively as the 6’3″ left shot defender is going to play a lot of minutes in all situations for this team for the next decade.
He played nearly 20 minutes on opening night against the Toronto Maple Leafs and then played 17:03 against the Chicago Blackhawks in the Canadiens opening two games of the season. There is some internal battling for ice time, but it seems likely Guhle will hold down a top four role behind Mike Matheson on the left side.
When he was initially ruled out, the team announced he would miss some time, and there was speculation online it could be a long-term absence. Fortunately for the Canadiens, just ten days later, Guhle is going to be back on the ice as he avoided a serious injury.
With Christian Dvorak yet to make his season debut, Kirby Dach out for the whole season after playing just two games and David Savard now out long term as well, it is great to have Guhle back to play significant minutes on the back end.
