Montreal Canadiens: Watch Logan Mailloux Score First AHL Goal
The Montreal Canadiens look to be building an impressive blue line for the near future. A bit part of that is David Reinbacher who was drafted fifth overall in the 2023 NHL Draft.
There are already some major young pieces in place with Kaiden Guhle, Jordan Harris, Arber Xhekaj and Justin Barron suiting up at the NHL level at a young age.
Another key piece of the future on defense is Logan Mailloux. He scored 25 goals as a 19 year old in Junior last season with the London Knights. He is playing his first pro season right now with the Laval Rocket and has been a bit slow out of the gate offensively. That being said, it has only been five games, but the offensive minded defender had been held scoreless.
Until tonight that is. The 6’3″ and 220 pound right shooting defender got his first point of his AHL career with a beauty shot from the slot. After having 53 points in 59 regular season games a year ago and another 24 points in 21 playoff games, it must have felt like an eternity to go five whole games without a point.
His first point was a goal set up by another pair of young players in their first full pro seasons. Joshua Roy and Sean Farrell combined for a neat passing play to open up some space as they entered the attacking zone. Roy then moved it to the slot to a streaking Mailloux who joined the rush.
Mailloux stepped into the slot before firing a laser of a wrist shot over the glove of the Belleville Senators goaltender who appeared to not see the puck at all.
Mailloux has the ability to beat goaltenders clean with his shot, a skill he always possessed. He was finally able to prove that he can do that at the pro level as well. With the talent he showed at the Junior level, it shouldn’t be long before Mailloux fires another pinpoint shot into the back of an opposing team’s net.
