Montreal Canadiens: Watch Goaltender Strauss Mann Score For Laval Rocket
The Montreal Canadiens are dealing with an awkward three goaltender system at the NHL level.
They are trying to find enough game action for Sam Montembeault, Jake Allen and Cayden Primeau. None of them can be sent to the AHL without passing through waivers and the team doesn’t think any of them would sneak through and make it to the Laval Rocket.
Meanwhile, the Rocket are trying to find the right goaltender for their net. Jakub Dobes started the team’s opening game but was pulled in favour of Strauss Mann. Dobes sat and watched as Mann allowed five goals on 25 shots over opening weekend.
While the Rocket continue to try and find a goaltender that can stop pucks, they did find one that helped the team in another way.
In the team’s third game of the season, Mann was given the start. After the Rocket fell behind 3-0, it was Mann who got the team on the board with a goalie goal.
The Rocket were shorthanded, and there was another penalty coming against them. With the delayed penalty signalled, their opponent, the Rochester Americans pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. They buzzed around the Rocket zone but Mann made a sprawling save. Then, the Americans gathered the rebound and tried to pass the puck back to their blue line but it hopped and the defender missed it.
The puck rolled the length of the ice and into the Rochester net. Since Mann was the last Rocket to touch the puck, he was credited with the team’s first goal of the night.
With the Rocket goaltenders having a hard time keeping pucks out of their net to start the season, it was nice to see Mann contribute at the other end of the ice.
