Montreal Canadiens: David Reinbacher Injured, But Recovery Timeline Optimistic
The Montreal Canadiens held a top five pick in the 2023 NHL Draft and used that fifth overall pick to take David Reinbacher.
The Austrian native played well in training camp and looks poised to become a minute munching top four defender in the future. The amount of offense he will bring to the table is up for debate, but he appears to be blossoming into a defender who will be able to shut down top competition in the near future.
Unfortunately, as seems to be custom with everyone in the Habs organization lately, Reinbacher was injured in a recent game. He fell awkwardly and crashed into the boards. Though he returned to the game for a short time, he missed the team’s next game and there was some uncertainty about his status.
Anthony Martineau of TVA Sports provided an update when he tweeted that Reinbacher underwent some tests which revealed there are no fractures, which is great news. He also mentioned the timeline for Reinbacher’s return is somewhere between one and three weeks.
That sounds more like a deep bruise or a pulled muscle and not anything that is too serious. As Canadiens fans, we are used to thinking something is not a big deal and it turns into a months long absence. The fact Reinbacher should be back soon is great news.
The 18 year old defenseman is playing in Switzerland with Kloten where he will hopefully continue to develop his two-way game while playing against professionals in a strong hockey league.
The more he plays, the better it is for his long term development, so hopefully he returns to action in the near future and is ready to take on big minutes once again.
