The Montreal Canadiens dealt with an almost unbelievable number of injuries over the past two seasons. It seemed like only having four or five players missing a game was a good night for the 2022-23 Canadiens.

The team began this season quite healthy, relatively speaking. Carey Price is technically still listed as injured though it is understood he is basically retired at this point due to his injuries.

Christian Dvorak and Chris Wideman also began the season on injured reserve, but Wideman would have been in tough to make the opening night lineup even if he was fully healthy, so it didn’t feel like a huge impact on the roster.

The team survived one whole game without adding anyone to the injured list, but they were not so fortunate in game two.

Kirby Dach was skating into the Chicago Blackhawks zone with the puck when he was met by former Canadiens first round pick Jarred Tinordi. The hulking defender hit Dach into the Blackhawks bench, though it did not appear to be anything to worry about for Dach. He jumped back onto the ice quickly and headed for a line change.

Dach could be seen talking to a trainer shortly after the hit and then took a short skate at the next tv timeout. He was not putting much weight on his right leg and then headed to the trainer’s room.

This was late in the first period, and Dach did not return. The team announced at the start of the second period that Dach would not return to tonight’s game. The Canadiens called it a lower-body injury, and it did look like Dach was gesturing toward his right knee when talking to the trainer on the bench.

Hopefully it is not something that keeps Dach out of the lineup long term. The 22 year old center had 38 points in 58 games for the Canadiens last season and set up a pair of goals in the team’s season opener earlier this week.
