Montreal Canadiens: Christian Dvorak Still Recovering From Injury
The Montreal Canadiens gathered together for the first time ahead of the 2023-24 season. It was for the team’s annual golf tournament but it also gives media a chance to talk to the players and management team for the first time after a long summer.
One of the key pieces of information to come out yesterday was that Mike Matheson will serve as the team’s assistant captain. He replaces Joel Edmundson who was traded to the Washington Capitals early in the summer.
The other news that came out yesterday was that Christian Dvorak is still not medically cleared to return to action. Dvorak injured his knee in March, and had surgery to repair the issue which ruled him out for the rest of the 2022-23 season.
It could lead to a disruption to the start of the upcoming season as well, but it is possible he can return soon. Kent Hughes was speaking to the media and said Dvorak is the only player not ready to return, and he has to meet with his surgeon once more and go through his medical testing.
It is difficult to read between the lines, but the fact he said he has to meet with his surgeon once more would imply it is the last time he needs to meet the surgeon. That means it is possible they expect him to get cleared for contact in that meeting, but again, we are starting to read some tea leaves at this point.
We will learn more later this week when the players go through their medical testing ahead of main training camp beginning. With so many injuries derailing the team last season, it was nice to hear that only one player is still dealing with the effects of their injuries.
Hopefully Dvorak can get the green light right away and the team can prepare for the upcoming season as a fully healthy team.
