The Montreal Canadiens will begin their 2023-24 season on October 11th. This information was announced weeks ago, but we did not know the start of the AHL season.

That is, until just now. The American Hockey League is announcing the home opener dates for all of the league’s clubs and will reveal a full schedule tomorrow.

Today, the Laval Rocket announced that their home opener will take place on October 13th. The Rocket will face the Abbotsford Canucks that Friday night in what will be a fun week for fans of the Canadiens as they get to see the Habs and Rocket return to action within a few days of each other.

The Rocket will be looking for a better regular season as they finished fifth in the North Division last season and played a qualifier series against the Utica Comets. They lost both games of a best 2-of-3 series and were eliminated before the playoffs really got started.

This season should have an impressive group of young players on the Rocket roster. Joshua Roy, Riley Kidney, Jared Davidson and Logan Mailloux will all be turning pro next season and should be in the Rocket lineup when the puck drops to begin the season. Jakub Dobes will be making his pro debut next season as well and could be the Rocket’s starting goaltender.

The Rocket will also be debuting some new talent in Lias Andersson, Phillip Maillet and Brady Keeper, three free agents who have signed with the organization and are likely to be in the minors to begin the season.

Friday the 13th is often associated with bad luck, but the Rocket will be hoping it is the start of a great season for the Canadiens top affiliate which has not had a lot of playoff luck in the past decade.
