The Montreal Canadiens quiet offseason continues. Aside from a couple of minor league signings and an unsurprising trade of veteran Joel Edmundson, the Canadiens have not done much since the free agency window opened.

That was to be expected as they do not have high hopes heading into the 2023-24 season and will likely finish low in the standings yet again. They also have a considerable number of NHL players under contract for next season already and don’t need to fill any gaps in the lineup with free agents.

Their American Hockey League affiliate has seen quite a few changes as they added several new players to their lineup for next season, and have seen some key contributors from last season move on to new teams.

That trend continued today when the Chicago Wolves announced a slew of free agent signings for the upcoming season. Two of the newest Wolves were regulars with the Laval Rocket last season.

Peter Abbandonato and Tory Dello will move on and play next season in Chicago on new AHL contracts that were signed earlier today.

Abbandonato was a key part of the Rocket offense. He scored 11 goals, 35 assists and 46 points in 66 games which put him second on the Rocket in assists and points. The Laval native got to play the past two seasons with his hometown team, and played quite well, but will now head to Chicago to put up points for the Wolves.

Dello did not put up the same offensive numbers, but he was a steady, reliable defenseman for the Rocket. The 25 year old right shot defender played 48 games with the Rocket last season, scoring four goals and 15 points. The 6′ and 200 pound graduate of Notre Dame has turned into a steady two-way defender at the AHL level and will provide safe, responsible minutes for the Wolves next season.
