The Montreal Canadiens annual development camp wraps up today. They have 37 of their best prospects in attendance this week as they took part in training and off-ice sessions as well as on-ice skills sessions as they worked with the Canadiens training and coaching staff from July 1st until today.
The final component of the camp is a scrimmage where the players are divided into two teams and play a game against each other. It is a fun event where we get a chance to see the Canadiens best prospects go head to head against one another.
There is usually a lot of skill and talent on display in what is a friendly, yet competitive game. Don’t expect Florian Xhekaj to take any runs at Lane Hutson or try to drop the gloves with anyone, but the two teams will be looking to show off what they can do with the puck and how will be wanting to catch the eye of the talent evaluators that are watching.
The scrimmage will be played in two periods, each will be 25 minutes in length but the clock will not stop at every whistle. Instead, the clock only stops for whistles in the final two minutes of each period. They are considered two separate games as well, so the score will be 0-0 at the start of the second period, no matter what happens in the first 25 minutes. Instead of penalties being served by playing a man short for two minutes, there will be a penalty shot awarded for every infraction.
Oh, and it will be played at 4-on-4 so bet on whichever team has Lane Hutson in the lineup.
The game will start at 11:00 AM EST at the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard and is open to the public. If you are not in the area, you can catch it online as well. There will be a link to view it on the Canadiens youtube channel which you can find by clicking here.
