The Montreal Canadiens had to make the tough decision to put Rem Pitlick on waivers earlier this season after signing him to a two-year contract extension in the offseason.
With the team in Calgary gearing up for tonight’s game with the Flames, they needed another body at forward. They have decided to recall Pitlick, and he is on route to Alberta to try and make it to the game on time.
The call up was made necessary when it was revealed Brendan Gallagher is injured and will not be able to suit up tonight. He joins Mike Hoffman, who was placed on injured reserve and Jonathan Drouin as winger who are out of the lineup with injuries at this point in the season.
Pitlick is a 25 year old winger who was picked up from the Minnesota Wild off waivers last season. He had plenty of success in his first stint with the Habs, scoring 26 points in 46 games last season and earning some ice time on the first line with Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield.
This season hasn’t gone as well. He has played seven NHL games, mostly on the fourth line and he is yet to register a single point. He did score a goal and six points in nine games with the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League after being sent down.
Hopefully Pitlick was able to regain some confidence with his stint in the minor leagues and he can provide some offence for the Canadiens once again. He is currently going through a sort of “planes, trains and automobiles” routine to get to the rink.
If he is able to make it on time, let’s hope he can find some success in the NHL once again. With so many injuries piling up on the wing, the Canadiens could use some scoring punch.
