Montreal Canadiens: Jake Allen awarded Jean Béliveau Trophy
Montreal Canadiens netminder Jake Allen was awarded for his acts of service and community involvement during the 2021-22 season. The Jean Béliveau Trophy is awarded annually to the Habs player who exemplifies leadership qualities within the community.
The Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation also makes a$25,000 donation to a charity of the player’s choice. According to an NHL press release on the Canadiens website, Allen chose Fondation Jasmin Roy Sophie Desmarais for the accompanying donation.
The foundation Allen chose will receive the donation to help support its programs to prevent and reduce bullying, discrimination, and violence in schools. The press release linked above also includes a video showcasing some of Allen’s efforts and why he’s chosen to dive headfirst into the community during his time in Montreal.

Allen has been with the Habs since the 2020 season after being acquired in a trade. He jumped right into the community and aimed to aid those around him. The press release into the different avenues that Allen and his family have pursued to help out within the community.
In May of 2022, Allen was nominated for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy but fell short. But it’s another reason to understand why Allen was chosen for this trophy within the Habs organization.
The Jean Béliveau Trophy was established in 2003 to commemorate the 50 years of association between Béliveau and the Canadiens organization, as noted in their press release. The Habs further explain that the award celebrates Béliveau’s great values as a player and a man.
He did plenty to help organizations that helped disadvantaged children, so this award aims to reward those players who are devoting time to personal initiatives that reflect this type of behavior that Béliveau showed.
The Habs also tweeted a photo of Allen with Élise Béliveau when the award was presented to him in Brossard.
As the 2022-23 season ticks on, the Canadiens will end up picking a new recipient for the award. But Allen was deemed the nominee for this past season. He has been presented with the award and will continue to tend goal as the primary option for the Habs.
Allen’s been busy off the ice. He missed time early in 2022-23 after being absent from the crease to be there for the birth of his third child in October. Congratulations to Jake Allen and his wife, Shannon. Also, congratulation to Jake for being awarded this great honor.
