The Montreal Canadiens traded a mid-first round draft pick to acquire Kirby Dach from the Chicago Blackhawks at last year’s NHL Draft.
It was part of a couple of big trades that also included shipping Alexander Romanov to the New York Islanders for the same pick before flipping it for Dach. The Blackhawks were happy to trade just about anyone and the Habs got in on the bidding and grabbed Dach.
A recent third overall pick, the 6’4″ centre has a ton of potential to become a top six forward that has size, skill and incredible vision and hands with the puck as well. He has looked good in his first few weeks as a Canadiens skater, but he has bounced around the lineup a bit.
Canadiens Kirby Dach Moves Up To Top Line
Tonight, Dach has bounced all the way to the top line. He had been playing centre almost every night so far. He is moving to the wing tonight and I don’t think he will be complaining about his position in the lineup.
Dach will be on the wing on the first line with Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield when the Habs take on the St. Louis Blues tonight. Having played the first three years of his career in Chicago, Dach should be familiar with facing the Blues.
The 21 year old has solid underlying numbers which show he is creating chances and getting pucks on net and keeping the puck out of his defensive zone better than most of his teammates this season.
The problem is, the pucks aren’t really going in the net for him. At least not yet. Dach has scored one goal and has three points in eight games this season. Playing with Suzuki and Caufield is going to give him the opportunity to showcase his skills and provide him with the best chance to put some points on the board as well.
The third forward on the top line spot is wide open for the taking at this point. If Dach can click quickly with Suzuki and Caufield this could be the team’s top line for the foreseeable fuutre.
At least the young promising forward is going to be given the chance to play with the team’s best players. He has a ton of potential, let’s see what he can show with the best chance the Canadiens can provide him with.
