The Montreal Canadiens have announced their new Reverse Retro jersey concepts. After a teaser on Wednesday with a reverse retro teaser in dark lightning that offered a minimal look at what was to come.

On Thursday, all thirty-two teams around the league were able to get a look at their concept. The Montreal Canadiens were able to debut their reverse retro sweater, which a whole uniform will accompany with matching helmets, pants, socks, gloves, etc.

Here’s the Habs’ new Reverse Retro jersey.

It’s got the familiar Habs logo in the center with the blue line across the center. The difference in this jersey pays homage to the Montreal Expos. While the city’s baseball franchise is long gone, the Habs opted to bring out the powder blue primary color with royal blue lettering on the back.

Montreal Canadiens announce new Reverse Retro uniforms.

The Habs will don these sweaters for eight of their games in the upcoming season. The first game they will suit up in the powder blues will be November 15th against the New Jersey Devils. According to ESPN, the Habs have the third-best Reverse Retro concept in the league.

They fell behind the Florida Panthers who ditched their primary logo for a hockey stick and palm tree crossover on a sky blue jersey and the San Jose Sharks, who are paying homage to the California Golden Seals and giving off a severe Jackie Moon jersey from Semi-Pro vibe.

For the Canadiens fans, there was a heavy mix of comments on the team’s Instagram post showing off the new threads. Some were clowning the Habs reveal for not having the RBC patch on it, which led to a lot of controversy around it ahead of the 2022-23 season when it was added to the team’s jerseys.

The patch will likely be featured, but it was not shown during the initial “Adidas x Habs” reveal. But I’m no jersey ad partnership expert. Beyond that, there were those comments in support, saying it paid homage to the Expos well and was a good job.

Then there were several in the middle of the pack, those who liked the jersey but felt it should have featured an Expos logo tie-in or had an alternate logo similar to how the Panthers deviated from their standard Panther head.
