The Montreal Canadiens are trying to find the right balance and chemistry on their lines and defence pairings early on this season. We have seen them shuffle things quite a bit up front, but their defence pairings have stayed fairly constant.

With so many young players on the blue line, consistency will be important as they not only learn how to play at the NHL level, but also learn how to work with a partner they haven’t played with in the past.

One pairing that looks like a good fit on paper, and has played well early this season, is the third pairing of Arber Xhekaj and Chris Wideman. It sounds like they are clicking off the ice as well as on it in Xhekaj’s first pro season.

Canadiens Arber Xhekaj reveals hilarious nickname

Canadiens defender Xhekaj was talking to the media after last night’s victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins and revealed his new nickname.

Now, most hockey players nicknames are just their own last night but with a “y” attached at the end. Carey Price would be Pricey. Brendan Gallagher would be Gally. Kaiden Guhle would be…. Guhley? Do they still attach the y if it just sounds the same? Probably.

Xhekaj however, has a unique name as it is and he deserved a unique handle to go with it. Thanks to his defence partner, he got one.

Xhekaj said his nickname is now “wifi” because of the seemingly random letters that are thrown together to create his name. You know how the cable company gives you a wifi password that is exceedingly long and just a bunch of random letters and maybe some numbers thrown in there?

That’s clever. The Canadiens may be in for a long season this year, but they have been a fun team to watch, at least their two wins, and are having fun off the ice as well. They may not win a ton of games, but at least these young players are growing and learning in a fun environment.
