The Montreal Canadiens training camp is well underway and they have reduced the numbers of players in attendance from 74 down to a little more than 40 as they make preparations for the upcoming season.

A couple of players are yet to participate in camp and seem unlikely to be ready to go when the puck drops on the regular season opener. Unfortunately Carey Price is not going to play at all this season, and veteran leaders Joel Edmundson and Paul Byron look like they will miss some time as well.

There is another key leader who is yet to play a preseason game, but returned to action as a full participant at practice yesterday.

Nick Suzuki Returns Just In Time

Nick Suzuki had a regular jersey on at practice, shedding the no-contact threads that he was wearing for the first week of training camp. This signals he is 100% ready to go and will now be gearing up for the regular season.

His green light to return to action comes at just the right time. The Canadiens have played four preseason games, but still have four remaining on their schedule. Their regular season opener is not until October 12th, so he has nearly two weeks of training camp to get ready for the season.

Had Suzuki’s injury lingered for even a couple more days, he would be scrambling to get in a single preseason game before the regular season begins. Since he is healthy today, he can still suit up for three of the exhibition contests that are left to be played, and be well prepared for the upcoming season.

With a hefty new contract kicking in this season, and a fresh letter C sewn onto the chest of his jersey, Suzuki is a key component of this organization for the foreseeable future. Even in this rebuilding season, it will be essential to have playing as much as he can, and gaining experience that will help him, and the team, down the road.

Luckily, he is back just in time to ensure he can hit the ground running (hit the ice skating?) when the puck drops on the regular season in ten days.
