The Montreal Canadiens draft picks keep coming fast and furious today. Do all the GMs hate being in the same room as each other or something because they can’t seem to wait to get this thing over.

Anyway, the Canadiens have already added a few new prospects to their system today and we need to focus on that. In the second round, they picked Owen Beck and Lane Hutson and the picks continued in the third round.

Vinzenz Rohrer was taken with the 75th overall pick and he provides good vale in the middle of the third round. He is a skilled, right shot forward who played for the Ottawa 67’s of the OHL last season.

Rohrer was playing his first season in the OHL and scored 25 goals and 48 points in 64 games. The Austrian native led the 67’s in scoring this season and added four more points in four playoff games before Ottawa was eliminated.

The 5’11” and 168 pound forward also has the added value that he is one of the youngest players in this draft. He is still 17 years old and won’t turn 18 until September 9th. If he were born a week later he would not be eligible to be selected until the 2023 NHL Draft. That gives him a little more development time ahead of him than many others who were born up to 51 weeks earlier than him.

The Canadiens second pick of the third round was 92nd overall and they took Adam Engstrom. He is a big Swedish defenceman standing at 6’2″ and 185 pounds. He jumped up the draft rankings late in the season with a strong second half in Sweden’s Junior league.

Engstrom scored eight goals and 28 points in 45 games for Djurgardens Under-20 program. He added seven points in six playoff games for them as well.
