Which Celebrity Is A Fan Of The Montreal Canadiens?

We’re at the mid way part of May and the province of Quebec is going through it’s first unexpected heat wave. Montreal Canadiens fans are outside having drinks and debating about who stays and who goes this offseason. Of course, some fans are beyond excited with the prospect of drafting Shane Wright and for some time now.

The Montreal Canadiens are a worldwide institution. There are fans at literally every corner of the planet and they come from all walks of life. There are even a few celebrities that are hardcore Canadiens fans.

While we recognize some of our hardcore readers as celebrities of A Winning Habit, such as Tyrone, Chickenfoot, HabWright and allan just to name a few, we’ll dedicate a section for you hardcore fans in another piece.

For now, here’s a few celebrity fans from the world of sports and entertainment.

Fans of a certain age will forever remember the shock and excitement when Aragorn walked on the ice during the Centennial festivities, gave a speech in French and introduced his idol and the one of many, Guy Lafleur.

Mortensen has been seen around the world randomly sporting either a Lafleur jersey or a Canadiens scarf. While he worked on the set of Lord Of The Rings, he revealed that for good luck, he would wear a Canadiens t-shirt under his armor.

So the next you’re watching the battle for Middle Earth, you can now smile knowing that in certain scenes, there’s a Habs t-shirt being worn. Viggo is no bandwagoner. He’s a super-fan.

Actor and producer Jay Baruchel is such a huge fan of the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge that he wrote a book about it.

The Ottawa native spent a large portion of his life in the Notre-Dame-De-Grace borough of Montreal. He still has a home in Montreal and was actually neighbors with former Canadiens captain and eventual assistant-coach Kirk Muller. They remain great friends to this day.

Baruchel also spent a lot of time on the set of the Goon movie trying to convert Sean William Scott into a Habs fan and it apparently worked! Baruchel is often seen at Staples Center in Los Angeles watching Kings game and rarely misses the opportunity to see them when they are in his Hollywood hometown.

The New York City native has dual citizenship and visits Montreal at least twice a year as he has family in La Belle Province. It is said he’s also a huge fan of Orange Julep.

Schnapp comes from a family of hardcore Canadiens fans (especially his dad Mitchell who is apparently legendary in the family for yelling at the TV) and fell in the love with the game as well. He is also a huge fan of Carey Price.
