Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price has had a very difficult season.
The 34 year old goaltender underwent knee surgery last summer shortly after the playoffs but it seems like he is yet to fully recover from the operation.
He was left unprotected in the Seattle Kraken expansion draft and when they got a look at his medical reports they chose to pass on the veteran goaltender. This seemed like bad news, but a few days later it was announced the surgery went well and Price was expected to be ready around the start of the regular season.
Then, he entered the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance program to be treated for substance use. This put him on the unavailable list for the Canadiens from early October to early November. Then, it was pretty quiet on the Carey Price front. He was absent from all team activities, then the team was shutdown for Covid for a while and Price was unable to meet with the medical team.
Price did get back on the ice a few times but suffered setbacks in his recovery.
He was finally able to make his season debut on April 15th against the New York Islanders. He would play four games before once again being shut down after a loss to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night. Cayden Primeau was called up to replace him on the roster on an emergency basis.
It was announced Price would not travel with the team to play the New York Rangers, but then it came out that he would travel with them to New York to meet with his surgeon. This seemed like terrible news, but there was a glimmer of hope today.
Eric Engels of Sportsnet tweeted out that Price was skating in Brossard at the team’s practice facility.
There was no announcement from the team, or official update on his status, but it seems like good news that Price is right back on the ice and skating after meeting with his surgeon yesterday.
It is still possible he plays in the team’s final game of the season tomorrow night against the Florida Panthers.
