Rejoice Canadiens fans, Martin St. Louis is not going anywhere.
While nothing has been made official by the Montreal administration, Martin St. Louis has crushed any rumour or doubt that he wouldn’t return as head coach for the Canadiens next season.
As long as there isn’t too many games in Columbus. Those damn cannons, I tell you.
During a media scrum yesterday, St. Louis quoted, “I don’t think so,” when asked if there were any situations that could make not accept the job as head coach of the Montreal Canadiens. “I was brought in here to finish the season, so I’m going to focus on that. Is my goal to be back next year? Yeah, absolutely. I don’t see many things why I wouldn’t be back, but you never know. But if I’m visualizing myself six, seven months from now, I see myself behind the bench. Until everything is concrete and stuff I’m going to stay the course of what I’m doing.”
He was then asked about the interim tag and if fans can expect an announcement before the end of the season. St. Louis didn’t mince words.
“After the season.”
“Our goal’s going to stay the same. It’s to keep evolving as a team. Keep building our brand, our game and do some individual coaching along the way and just try every game to be one step closer to what’s next for us. And what’s next for us is training camp next year.”
At the time of this writing, St. Louis is 12-13-4 since taking over Dominique Ducharme (8-30-7) as head coach of the Canadiens.
Martin St. Louis has been a breath of fresh air since taking over coaching duties. A franchise that have gotten so use to having controlling coaches that weren’t always affable with both fans and the media. St. Louis’ confidence on letting players express their talents have led to the elevation of nearly every player’s game on the roster.
