Cole Caufield strikes again.

The electrifying 21 year old sniper brought home an award Canadiens fans haven’t seen in 14 years as he was named the NHL Rookie Of The Month for the month of March. The last Canadiens player to receive this honor was Carey Price in 2008.

Caufield led all rookies with 7 goals and 8 assists for 15 points last month. he also led all rookies in power play assists (5), power play points (8) and tied for first place in power play goals (3).

Runners up were teammate Rem Pitlick (3-8-11 in 15GP), Anaheim Ducks’ surprise breakout Trevor Zegras (3-7-10 in 13GP), Michael Bunting of the Maple Leafs (1-9-10 in 14GP), Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman (6-2-0, 3.10 GAA, .893 SV%) and Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Logan Thompson (5-3-0, 2.73 GAA, .916 SV%, 1 SO)

Caufield’s 15 points in March is the most points in a calendar year by a rookie since Michael Ryder in January 2004. The Newfoundland native had 7 goals and 9 assists for 16 points in 14 games played that month.

Moreso impressive is the fact that Caufield had a point in 11 of 15 games played last month. four multi-point games and already has four career game winning goals in only 64 NHL games played thus far. He joins Moritz Seider (October) and Lucas Raymond (November) of the Detroit Red Wings, Trevor Zegras (December), Anton Lundell (January) of the Florida Panthers, and Jeremy Swayman (February) as honorees this season.

Also impressive? His chirping in French courtesy of TVA Sports who mic’d up the rookie during the game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

You can check out some of his best mic’d up moments from the game here.

What else is there left to say about Cole Caufield? Just keep watching in disbelief folks because this kid is not even near his peak potential yet.

The Canadiens are back in action on Tuesday at the Bell Center as they play host to the Ottawa Senators in game number 70.
