Small piece of news in the world of the Montreal Canadiens as the team has announced that they have signed forward Lucas Condotta to a one-year entry level deal for the 2022-23 season.

Condotta, 24, is a product of the UMass-Lowell River Hawks and was their captain playing in his senior year. The Georgetown, Ontario native is related to Matt Martin of the New York Islanders.

Mostly recognized as a top six forward with a physical presence and relentless drive, the 6’2″ 209 lbs left winger will report to the Laval Rocket of the AHL on a Professional Tryout. The Rocket are in need of some depth as they prepare and hope to make a deep playoff run this season.

He also notably faced Cale Makar, star defender for the Colorado Avalanche, while the latter was a member of UMass-Amherst.

The River Hawks official website notes that Condotta is “A student in the Manning School of Business, Condotta was named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team the last three years. In his 121 games as a River Hawk, Condotta amassed 24 goals and 28 assists for 52 career points.”

Condotta also led the River Hawks to the 2022 NCAA Tournament where they fell to Denver 3-2 in the opening bracket.

The Laval Rocket sit second in the North Division with 67 points, 16 points behind division leaders Utica Comets. The team is currently led by Raphael Harvey-Pinard who leads the team with 39 points. Jean-Sebastien Dea leads the team with 19 goals while captain Xavier Ouellet leads the team with 24 assists.

Goaltender Kevin Poulin has been a story of redemption as he went from the Montreal Canadiens training camp all the way down to the ECHL in Trois-Rivieres. Now with the Rocket, the former New York Islander has a 13-6-1 record in 21 games with a 2.30 GAA and .926 save percentage, all best statistics on the team.
