We are finally here, Trade Deadline Day! There are reports and rumors running rampant regarding the Montreal Canadiens and we are making sure you have the most up to date news regarding the team. So far everyone has practiced with the team and penciled in for tonight’s game against the Bruins. However, that could all be smoke. So without further ado, here is the latest regarding the Canadiens’ biggest trade baits.

Jeff Petry

There are apparently two teams that have contacted Kent Hughes regarding Jeff Petry. No word on if anything will materialize but the feeling is this will remain an off-season type of move. Remember the Dallas Stars and Detroit Red Wings were once reported to have interest in the defenceman.

Mathieu Perreault

Teams on the look for depth up front are interested in Mathieu Perreault. One of those teams might be the Calgary Flames who are looking to stock up on playoff experience. Despite clearing waivers, Perreault has not reported to the Laval Rocket as teams are evaluating all of their options. A contract might have to come our end if a low draft pick doesn’t work for the opposing team.

Artturi Lehkonen

The Canadiens prefer to keep Lehkonen but have told teams that a 1st round pick would make a deal possible. No news on that front but many reporters claim that “someone will crack” and give the Habs what they want.

The Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers are apparently ready to duke it out for Kulak. Hughes prefers to keep him and extend him but a 2nd round pick might change his mind.

Shea Weber

Arizona showed interest in acquiring his contract but instead turned towards Bryan Little. Arizona got a 4th round pick but also the rights to unsigned NCAA prospect Nathan Smith from Winnipeg. No news on if the Coyotes still want to pursue Weber’s contract but it’s doubtful we’ll see a deal before the off-season.

Jake Allen

The big goaltending fish seems to be Marc-Andre Fleury and it’s becoming more and more possible that he will end up in Minnesota after rejecting trades to Toronto and Washington. Once that is done, teams will be looking at secondary options and there is interest in Allen but don’t hold your breath on that one.
