The Montreal Canadiens have reportedly agreed to pay the asking price regarding Minnesota Wild prospect Jack McBain. We have recently reported the possibility of McBain being traded to the Canadiens.

Both Elliotte Friedman and Darren Dreger have reported the news as of late and now it seems that Kent Hughes has agreed to pay the price of a 2nd round pick, as long as McBain signs a contract. There is no word if the second round pick would be from the 2022 or 2023 pool. That being said, the second round pick might come from another team depending on the return the Canadiens get for Ben Chiarot, who was a healthy scratch against Arizona, or for another player in the rumor mill such as Artturi Lehkonen or Brett Kulak.

McBain is in a similar situation to Canadiens prospect Jordan Harris, where he is committed to an American University (Boston College in this case) and has yet to sign an entry level NHL contract.

With everyone having their sights straight at the 3pm trade deadline on Monday, speculations and rumors will run rampant. Many trades will be pending on conditions, such as this one, so nothing is set in stone until everyone signs on the dotted line.

Everyone might remember “glove gate” in 2008 when Marian Hossa, at the time with the Atlanta Thrashers, came within a glove of becoming a member of the Montreal Canadiens. The deal was all but confirmed to a point where gloves were seen with his name on it at the Bell Center during a game between the Thrashers and the Canadiens. The deal eventually fell through and Hossa ended up in Pittsburgh where he would lose in the Stanley Cup finals against the Detroit Red Wings.
