Only thirteen days until the NHL Trade Deadline and of course the answer to our burning question: Who will the Canadiens trade by then? As we’ve said time and time again in the last month, the usual suspects are Ben Chiarot, Jeff Petry and Artturi Lehkonen, as the players most likely to leave town. That being said, a word of caution to everyone reading this.

The trade deadline brings in a ton of rumors and rumors are exciting. We have posted many rumors in the past with links to the original source so as to remain credible and legitimate. Some like Tyler Toffoli to Calgary became true, while others like Jeff Petry to Dallas has yet to happen.
Twitter is a mega-center of rumors and some people go as far as to create fake trades. Tweets like these is to provoke reaction, but sometimes people get fooled…even on national television.
Marc Moser, who has been the Colorado Avalanche’s play-by-play man for 13 years, 11 of them on the radio and the recent 2 on television, got fooled by a fake tweet claiming that Jeff Petry was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Shortly after the start of the second period, Moser and his sidekick Peter McNab recognized the error and apologized for the false news.
Here is the fake Tweet in question that fooled even professionals.
At first glance the Tweet can seem legitimate and it’s quite possible a human error can happen if you don’t pay attention to the details. While the description and account name is fine, there are three things that stands out the most. First is there is no verified checkmark beside the Toronto Maple Leafs name. Second, the user name is @PeckerGoVroommm and finally, I doubt a selfie would be the picture used to announce a trade.
This isn’t the first time this has happened as of late and also the second time it involves Ben Chiarot being shipped to the Leafs.
Paul Kennedy and Dave Andreychuk were covering the Penguins vs Lightning game when they falsely announced that Ben Chiarot was traded to the Leafs.

Even Kent Hughes was victim of a fake Tweet not long after his hiring and it even made it on French television.

The Ben Chiarot trade cannot be seen on Twitter anymore because the account with the user name @MapleLeefs is currently suspended.
With Jake Muzzin out, it’s normal that the Leafs are linked to virtually every defenceman on the market, particularly Ben Chiarot.
However, be careful out there, folks. There’s a lot of fake news out there. If you’re not sure if the source is legitimate, check the account info first to make sure. Otherwise, A Winning Habit will have you covered on news and rumors worthy of a mention.
