The Montreal Canadiens are in Edmonton tonight to take on the Oilers at Rogers Place on Hockey Night in Canada.

The Habs are playing their best hockey of the season as they have won six of their last seven games and finally look like a competent hockey team after a long stretch of hockey to begin the year where they were completely lost on the ice, especially in their own end of the ice.

It left goaltenders hung out to dry and when injuries to Carey Price and Jake Allen left the Habs scrambling for netminders, it was Samuel Montembeault and Cayden Primeau often facing dozens of scoring chances every night and not looking good at all.

You would expect a game between the Canadiens and Oilers to feature Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl or maybe Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki on the highlight reel. But it was a save made by Montembeault that will be the highlight of the night in this game.

With just a fraction of a second to play in the first period, the Oilers had some pressure in the Canadiens zone with Zach Hyman, McDavid and Draisaitl on the ice. Hyman got the puck to the front of the net where McDavid got a chance and was denied by Montembeault.

Then, the rebound went to the side of the net where Draisaitl grabbed it, moved the puck to his stick and had a shot at a completely wide open net.

Except, Montembeault dove across with the glove out of nowhere and robbed the league’s leading goal scorer with a jaw dropping save.

There have not been a lot of highlights on this Canadiens season, but this Montembeault save is going to be on end of the year countdowns as possibly the greatest save made by any goaltender in the NHL this season.
