The Montreal Canadiens lost their 10th game in a row on Super Bowl Sunday when they fell to Jeff Skinner’s 4 goal and 1 assist magic show.
Corey Schueneman, who was called up on emergency loan after Ben Chiarot landed on the IR, got an assist and showed good spots when on the ice, further demonstrating that he might be able to handle 7th defenceman duties.
Joel Armia and Jeff Petry finally woke up offensively each notching their 2nd goal of the season, while Mike Hoffman tallied one as well for his 8th of the season.
The line of Tyler Toffoli, Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield however, had an atrocious night in their own zone, finishing the night at -3 each.
"We definitely need to clean that up. Especially my line and myself. We need to be better defensively. – Nick Suzuki"
Suzuki showed leadership while facing the Montreal media owning up to his own mistakes as well as the ones of his linesmates. He has been one of the rare bright spots to this Canadiens season as he is showing time and time again that he is able to play big minutes, as well as play on both ends of the ice with efficiency.
He also added that the team is buying in on Martin St. Louis’ philosophy. The team doesn’t feel as defeated when they let in a goal and they are more capable to rebound. Clearly, the new voice behind the Canadiens’ bench is already creating a positive impact amongst the players.
Nick Suzuki is the Montreal Canadiens’ leading scorer with 9 goals and 19 assists for 28 points in 48 games. He is the only player on the team to have played every game this season.
Canadiens play Thursday against the St. Louis Blues where head coach Martin St. Louis will attempt to get his first win as a coach after starting his career 0-3-0.
