The Montreal Canadiens have already built up an impressive group of prospects and will be sure to add a slew of more picks at the 2022 NHL Draft, which they host.

One of their top prospects in the system right now is 19 year old forward Jan Mysak.

The Czech Republic native was a second round pick of the Canadiens in 2020. He had scored 15 goals and 25 points in 22 OHL games that season. He has been even better this season.

Mysak is playing a pivotal role on the Hamilton Bulldogs who are one of the best teams in Canadian Junior hockey. He has been the team’s first line centre most of the season, but shifted to left wing on that top line when Mason McTavish arrived in a blockbuster trade before the OHL’s deadline.

McTavish is gone to the Olympics so Mysak moved back to centre over the weekend and he looked pretty comfortable.

In Friday night’s game against the Niagara Ice Dogs, Mysak scored a hat trick. He started it off with a lucky bounce, on a play that was started by Canadiens prospect Arber Xhekaj who carried the puck the length of the ice. Mysak leaped to grab the puck out of midair before firing it toward the net. It bounced off an Ice Dogs defender and into the back of the net.

His second of the night was a nice one-timer that beat the goaltender. Mysak wins an offensive zone faceoff before getting open in the high slot. He gets a pass and immediately fires the puck into the back of the net.

His third of the night was an empty net goal from a long distance. He beats one forechecker before getting right to the centre ice faceoff dot to ensure it won’t be icing, then he fires a pinpoint shot into the middle of the open net to complete his hat trick.

He was pretty excited too and even though there were no fans in the arena, he was sure to wave to the camera’s after his second goal.

The next night, the Bulldogs were taking on a tough Kingston Frontenacs opponent. Once again, Mysak would come away with three points. His first was an assist where he dropped a puck back after gaining the opposing zone and his teammate made a nice cross ice pass to find a streaking winger in the slot who fired it home.

Mysak then added his 22nd goal of the season when he cruised to the front of the net and perfectly redirected a pass from teammate Ryan Winterton.

Once again, Mysak finished the night with an empty netter as he was given quite a bit of room to do so as well. Perhaps the Frontenacs were not aware that Mysak already had four goals and five points on the weekend before they allowed him an open lane to an empty net.

The Canadiens prospect now has 23 goals and 41 points in 31 games this season.
