The Montreal Canadiens game tonight against the Boston Bruins was cancelled because the Bruins had a handful of players on the NHL’s Covid-19 list.
Well, it seems like the league made the right call as the Bruins aren’t the only team that was supposed to play this game that has players on that ineligible to play list.
The Canadiens announced this evening that Artturi Lehkonen has been placed on the NHL’s Covid protocol list.
Lehkonen becomes the third player from the Montreal Canadiens roster to be added to the Covid list this season. Brendan Gallagher and Sami Niku were added to the list about two weeks ago and are yet to play a game since. They have been back skating and are scheduled to join the roster again soon. They might have even played tonight had the game not been postponed, but now we will have to wait and see what the lineup looks like when the team is able to get together again.
The Canadiens were originally scheduled to fly to New York tomorrow morning where they are supposed to play three games in four nights in the area. They face the New York Islanders on Monday, followed by the New York Rangers on Wednesday and then take on the New Jersey Devils on Thursday.
The team will now travel to New York on Monday morning instead of tomorrow afternoon. In the meantime they will practice in Brossard Sunday morning in preparation of their trip to New York.
After the game against the Devils, the Canadiens are scheduled to be off for five days for the Christmas break before heading down south to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, and Carolina Hurricanes.
The team also announced that Mathieu Perreault and Joel Armia were placed on injured reserve and will be out until after the Christmas break.
So…. good news all around for the team sitting second last in the league and have already made about a dozen call ups from the minors this season.
