The Montreal Canadiens have set a lot of records over the years. Try as they might, fans of other teams will never be able to take away the team’s 24 Stanley Cup wins.

Not only is that more than any other team, but if you combine the teams with the second and third most Stanley Cups, they only tie the Canadiens with 24.

That is an impressive record.

Not to take anything away from the record Lukas Vejdemo set last night, but it does kind of pale in comparison to some of the achievements made by Canadiens players over the years. Still, Vejdemo did score a pair of goals last night that earned him a bit of recognition. He now holds the record for most goals scored by a Laval Rocket player.

Now, we do have to keep in mind that the Rocket have only been around for five seasons, including this one. Vejdemo is also tied for the franchise record in playoff goals with zero because the team has never qualified for the postseason. He isn’t approaching Rocket Richard territory is what I am trying to say.

Vejdemo, a third round draft pick of the Canadiens in 2015, scored his 33rd and 34th career goals last night. This puts him one ahead of Alex Belzile, who has 33 goals in 125 career games and just two ahead of Chris Terry who had 32 goals in his one season with the Rocket.

The 25 year old Swedish centre has a ways to go before he can catch Belzile in points. First of all, he is 18 back of Belzile for the record, which is 90, and Belzile is still active and not likely to go anywhere else anytime soon as the 30 year old has a pretty solid gig playing pro hockey for his hometown team.

With 11 more points, Vejdemo will catch Jake Evans for second place all time in points by a Laval Rocket. Of course, with all the injuries in Montreal this season, Vejdemo could find himself playing in the NHL instead of the AHL any day now, so that could take a while.

It might not be long before Belzile scores a goal and ties the record once again. But right now, Lukas Vejdemo is that all time goal scoring leader for the Laval Rocket.
