The Montreal Canadiens lost yet another game last night and still sat at six wins in the standings after 25 games played this season.
That wasn’t even all of the bad news after last night’s contest.
Josh Anderson left the game with an upper body injury after taking a nasty hit from behind into the boards behind the Colorado Avalanche net. He looked a little shaken up by the contact immediately but was able to get up and dust himself off and get to the bench without issue.
Then, after the game, it was announced that Anderson is going to miss 2-4 weeks of action. Clearly something serious occurred as they did not take long to announced that he would be out for at least a couple of weeks and might not be back until after New Year’s Day.
That wasn’t even all of the bad news as Brendan Gallagher and Sami Niku both tested positive for Covid-19 again which confirms they are both battling the virus. Both players will be out of the lineup for the next ten days.
They join Mike Hoffman, Joel Edmundson, Carey Price, Paul Byron and Shea Weber on the sidelines.
For reinforcements, the Canadiens also reached down to their minor league team and called up Laurent Dauphin.
The 26 year old forward is off to a great start to the season for the Laval Rocket. He has scored 11 goals and 16 points in the team’s 18 games and is tied for the AHL’s lead in goal scored this season.
The Repentigny, Quebec native is playing in his third season with the Rocket and has scored 23 goals and 24 assists for 47 points in 54 career games in Laval. He can be trusted to take care of business defensively as well so the call up from the Rocket is well deserved for the player who was acquired for Michael McCarron two years ago.
The Canadiens next game is Saturday night when they travel to Nashville to take on the Predators.
