Montreal Canadiens games were shelved for a week as the Habs had two players on the Covid Protocol list, but they finally returned to action last night.

It was Joel Armia and Jesperi Kotkaniemi who were placed on the ineligible to play list, but the entire team’s activities including games, practices and workouts at the team’s facilities were banned for seven days.

The team missed four games that were rescheduled and shoehorned into the final 43 days of the regular season.

If you recall, when they last played they took on the Vancouver Canucks a week ago Saturday night. They won that game 5-4 in a shootout if you can believe it. It was their 10th game that went to extra time and first one that the Habs won. They also did it in their supposedly cursed blue reverse retro jerseys.

They also did it without their leading goal scorer.

Tyler Toffoli was somewhat mysteriously injured on Friday night against the Canucks. He missed the Saturday night game and was just labeled day to day. On Monday, it was announced he would miss the rest of that week but could have returned as soon as Sunday.

Well, Sunday has come and gone, as has Monday, and Toffoli was absent from practice last night.

The Canadiens finally returned to the ice after their Covid ban, but Toffoli was not among the participants. This is somewhat concerning, considering how the team downplayed the injury last Saturday and then made it sound like he would have been ready to go two days ago.

Some injuries just don’t heal as quickly as anticipated and sometimes further tests reveal more damage than originally believed. There have been no reports about Toffoli’s injury so we are left to wonder.

Hopefully it is simply a case of a minor thing not healing as quickly as everyone thought it would, but Toffoli’s absence from even practicing ten days after his original injury is definitely a cause for concern.
