Third Star: Nick Suzuki

The Montreal Canadiens finally lost a game in regulation on Saturday night. They played well, but could not beat Jacob Markstrom. Though the Habs carried the play for long stretches, they were shut out and lost 2-0 with a late empty net goal sealing their fate.

It was important for the Canadiens to get on the scoreboard early last night. After being shut down by Markstrom in their last game, another period or two of being turned aside could lead to frustration.

Thankfully, Nick Suzuki took care of that very early in the game. A three on two rush with his wingers Jonathan Drouin and Josh Anderson led to a chance for Drouin that was turned aside. Anderson jumped on the loose puck behind the net and fed it out front to a waiting Suzuki who made no mistake putting the Habs up 1-0 exactly one minute into the game.

Then, almost midway through the second period, Suzuki forced a turnover at the red line and quickly got the puck up to a streaking Brendan Gallagher. The Habs scrappy winger deked to his backhand and beat Holtby to make it 4-1.
