The Montreal Canadiens got off to a great start to the season, going 4-0-2 on a six game road trip to begin the year.

They finally returned home and split a pair of contests with the Calgary Flames last week before taking on the Vancouver Canucks last night.

After being shutout by the Flames on Saturday, the Habs got off to a great start with Nick Suzuki scoring just one minute into the game.

That was just the beginning of an onslaught of offence. Artturi Lehkonen and Jeff Petry would also score in the first period and Brendan Gallagher, Petry (again) and Tyler Toffoli would extend the lead to 6-1 in the second frame. The Habs were relentless on the forecheck throughout the first forty minutes, forcing turnover after turnover and creating scoring chances on almost every shift.

That continued in the third with several more turnovers leading to chances and a handful of breakaway chances from Josh Anderson and Jake Evans that were turned aside by Braden Holtby who actually made dozens of great saves in a night when he allowed half a dozen goals.

The Canucks will have a quick chance for revenge as the two teams play again tonight, but last night was kind of a chance for revenge already as the Habs scored 17 goals in three games on the west coast last week.

In a big offensive night for many players, let’s take a look at the Canadiens three stars.
