It was being teased at for weeks and now the Montreal Canadiens reverse jersey is officially out and ready to be worn for the upcoming season.
We may not have an official start for the 2020/21 NHL season, but at least we know what the Montreal Canadiens will be wearing for it.
Adidas Hockey has made an effort to kick it old school and pay respect to some of the old threads NHL players wore in the past. This started Reverse Retro and at first, all we knew about it was that it would be based on a jersey an organization during a specific year. The previews went out and it looked like the Montreal Canadiens were going to pay homage to their 1977 season.
At the same time, Habs fans have been wanting a blue reverse jersey for years. The Winter Classic sweater from 2016 was the closest thing to that being all mostly white with a light blue stripe across the middle. We haven’t gotten any confirmation as to what the rest of the equipment will look like, but the blue is a definite win.

The question now is whether this is a one-time thing, or if it’s something the Montreal Canadiens choose to wear on more than one occasion. Perhaps this is a jersey the team chooses to wear on rivalry nights when the Habs are facing a historic opponent such as the Toronto Maple Leafs or Boston Bruins.
Although the colouring would be different, it would add more flare to the fight, especially given how the Leafs’ in particular are paying respect to those old squads that managed to win the Stanley Cup.
It’s just another jersey at the end of the day, but it’s one Montreal Canadiens fans have wanted for years. And with a new team to ice, who knows what kind of luck it can bring.
