Montreal Canadiens top prospect Cole Caufield will begin his season on November 13.

Montreal Canadiens top prospect Cole Caufield talked openly about wanting to turn pro after his first college season ended last March. He had a successful first season in NCAA, and was hoping to make the leap to the professional ranks.

After talking with Habs general manager Marc Bergevin, Caufield thought it over and decided to return to play for the Wisconsin Badgers for a second season.

Of course, with everything going on in the world, that season was not a guarantee either. There were rumours earlier this fall that Caufield was looking to sign with a Swedish Hockey League team, but that never came to pass either.

Having definitely not turned pro, Caufield will not begin his sophomore season with the Badgers. That season was originally scheduled to begin a few weeks ago, but has been delayed thanks to the global pandemic that is still taking its toll on the United States. However, we now have an official opening date for the Wisconsin Badgers schedule.

It was rumoured to be November 13 a few days ago but nothing was official. That is, until Brian Posick, the play-by-play man for Wisconsin Badgers hockey sent out a tweet confirming that the season will begin November 13. His course for that information was none other than Tony Granato who is the head coach of Caufield’s Badgers squad, so that is pretty legitimate information.

There still isn’t an actual schedule released, so we don’t know who the Badgers opponent will be, but we know it will be someone in their conference. The Big Ten Conference consists of Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Penn State and Minnesota. These teams will play a 24 game schedule this season, all against one another and they will all also host Arizona State for four games during the season.

The season will wrap up with a Big Ten Conference tournament that features all seven teams in the conference. The top seed will receive a bye to the semi-finals while the second seed will play the seventh seed in a one game playoff. The third seed will face the sixth seed and the fourth and fifth seeds will face off as well.

That while tournament will take place from March 18-20. I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but that also means that Cole Caufield could be playing for the Montreal Canadiens as early as March 20.

Next. 3 former Habs who should sign soon. dark

After scoring 19 goals and 36 points in 36 games last season, Caufield will be looking to lead the Badgers to a little more team success. They finished last in the Big Ten Conference last season and were swept in the opening round of the playoffs.
